Where Miranda stars are now – from divorce after devastating affair to Downton Abbey role and break from showbusiness

IT WAS the self-titled comedy that shot Miranda Hart to fame, and into the nation’s… well, hearts.

BBC hit Miranda told the story of its awkward star, who was always getting herself in funny situations, while working in a joke shop with her best friend Stevie – played by Sarah Hadland.

But what happened to the rest of the Miranda cast?

It was rumoured this week that the show could be returning after seven years – although Miranda herself has since claimed there is “nothing planned at this time”.

But what have the cast been up to after leaving the series behind?

Miranda Hart

Miranda took a break from showbiz after her dog Peggy died

Miranda became a household name thanks to the show – and ended up bagging three Royal Television Society awards, four British Comedy Awards and four BAFTA nominations.

The 49-year-old went on to star in Call The Midwife as Camilla ‘Chummy’ Fortescue-Cholmondeley-Browne, and she’s even been in Hollywood films – including Spy, alongside Melissa McCarthy, and Emma, opposite Anya Taylor-Joy.

While Miranda tends to keep her private life private, it’s believed she’s not married and doesn’t have kids.

However, in January 2021, Miranda was devastated when her dog Peggy died and announced she would be “taking a break” from showbiz to grieve the pet she called her “rock”.

Miranda has also revealed she suffers from anxiety and agoraphobia.

In 2018, she said: “When a low mood sinks in, you find yourself almost revelling in the awful world news and feeling self-pityingly about the tiniest things.

“I think I’ll always be a slightly anxious person. It’s just bad genes, bad luck really.”

Sarah Hadland

Sarah Hadland has been in loads of TV shows since Miranda, including Bob the Builder

Sarah Hadland, 50, played Miranda’s best friend Stevie Sutton in Miranda.

Sarah has been in loads of TV shows since, including comedies W1A and The Job Lot, as well as playing the voice of Dizzy in Bob the Builder.

She even had a minor role in the James Bond film Quantum of Solace.

In 2019, Sarah said she regularly speaks to the Miranda cast.

She told The Sun: “I speak to the Miranda cast all the time.

“I feel lucky to have done a job that has given me a good friend for life.

“I’d love to do another series, but it’s up to Miranda because she writes the show. Never say never!

Tom Ellis

Tom was married to Tamzin Outhwaite until 2013 when he had an affair

TV hunk Tom Ellis played Miranda’s crush in the show – and eventually became her husband.

He’s gone on to some great jobs since – including playing Oscar Wilde in Family Guy.

But the role that gave him international fame was playing the lead role in Lucifer on Netflix, which ran for six series until 2021 – for which Tom has since admitted demanded a gruelling training regime.

The father-of-three is currently married to his second wife, American screenwriter Meaghan Oppenheimer, after divorcing EastEnders actress Tamzin Outhwaite in 2013, when he admitted to having an affair while filming in the US.

A source told The Sun at the time about the divorce: “Tamzin has cited adultery, so she will have a huge advantage when it comes to negotiations.

“Tom’s a reasonable bloke and as it’s pretty cut and dried they could be divorced within months.”
